Winter solstice is the shortest day and longest night of the year. Nature has surrendered itself to yin and become dormant. This is the time where we as humans might spiral inwards supporting our bodies and minds to rest and integrate.

This workshop is a celebration of the Winter Solstice; taking time to slow down, creating space for dreams and visions to emerge, as we set our intentions for the year to come.

Through ritual practices we will spend our time together slowing down, resting, allowing space for dreaming, setting intentions, connecting with our grief, and exploring how we can surrender into stillness as we honour this passing cycle and remember the earth's wisdom all around us.

About Earth Rhythms

Cyclical, earth and body wisdom for those seeking to create balanced ways of living in alignment with the natural world.

Cyclical wisdom is millions of years old, formed by the earth’s intelligence and offers us a roadmap to create cultures of care, balance and regeneration.

Earth Rhythms is a gateway into this exploration. By tuning in and observing the changes in nature, we can learn to see the world around us as animate and alive. Through this practice we begin to understand more deeply how our wellbeing is connected to these changing cycles.

Calling on over ten years of embodiment, creativity, ritual, nature connection, and activism, this work dives into cyclical wisdom as a pathway to unlearn in order to prioritise a post growth future; one that values our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing over profit and productivity.

Why is Cyclical Wisdom Important?

Many of us tend to speed through winter, or any other time of the year, without so much as glimpsing the subtle rhythmic changes of the earth that affect all of life. We often see ourselves as separate from nature rather than interconnected and affected by it.

We are living in a culture of burnout, stress, anxiety and productivity that is making us and the planet unwell. So many find it difficult to move beyond the ‘busy’ that we are all accustomed to, forcing ourselves into unnatural rhythms to meet the expectations of the society we live in.

Yet, we are creatures in animal bodies that are deeply affected by our environment. Our cultural norms are creating a traumatised society that can’t remember how to stop. It is essential for the sustainability and wellbeing of ourselves and the natural world to refuse to invest in this culture and to walk a path that is attentive to how we perpetuate systems that keep us tired, separate and feeling unworthy or like we don’t belong.

So what could be possible if we all had December off to rest?

If we recognised how we each uphold the system through behaviours that feed capitalism?

What if we could find a deeper connection to the earth?

What if it could help slow us down?

What could be possible?

Facilitator

Alana is an artist, facilitator, performer, ritualist and activist committed to expressing life to its fullest capacity through creativity and facilitation. More recently she has been exploring what it means to become a doula to systems change through the intersections of ritual, community, spirituality, learning and creativity. She weaves embodiment, cyclical wisdom, pleasure, grief and artistry into the spaces she holds, drawing on her lifelong curiosity in leading groups. Since 2016 she has run an array of creative retreats including The Warren where she creates experiences for people to explore their creative gifts through community, connection and many practices inspired by theatre & dance.  She is co-director of The Living Projects, a regenerative land based learning community in Devon and a Host Mentor with Enrol Yourself and a member of the Buckminster Fuller Design Science Studio 2020.

"As a Facilitator she strikes a beautiful balance between holding the structure while attuning and adapting to what is intuitively called for in the moment. One of her many gifts is gently and powerfully helping groups to ground in the ways of nature and the rhythms of the body. She lives and breathes what she teaches, she shares from her inner well of lived experience." - Emma Ashru-Jones
