A walking discussion about mushroom identification, history, folklore and ecology

The Psychedelic Society and Rights For Weeds invite you to gather for a guided walk around a woodland near Frome, led by Izzy from Rights For Weeds.

This walk is suitable for all levels of mushroom and ecology enthusiast. We'll be learning how to identify some edible/traditional medicinal mushrooms and where to find them. Alongside this, we'll be speaking collectively about how mushroom hunting and related practises can inform our relationship to the ecosystem and shape an ecologically-conscious lifestyle.

We can also chat about recipes, fungal folklore and history, their life cycles, growth patterns, their roles in the ecosystem, their value to conservation models and how to integrate them into our lives. We might even meet some poisonous ones….

Bring any questions and opinions you have. You could also bring a notebook, suitable footwear and clothing, and drawing equipment if you want to. We'll be going ahead rain or shine.

*In accordance with local bylaws, we will NOT be picking and eating things, so no need to bring a basket. However we can discuss how to forage safely and sustainably so that you can leave with enough confidence to gather mushrooms elsewhere.

**Unfortunately, this walk isn't wheelchair accessible as we'll be walking on uneven woodland terrain. We won’t be walking fast or far and there will be a lot of standing around and talking. You're welcome to bring a collapsible stool if you need to sit often. There are accessible plant walks being planned in the city, at reduced prices. Get in touch (@rightsforweeds) if you'd like to know more.

YOUR FACILITATOR

Izzy Johns (Rights for Weeds)

Rights For Weeds is a foraging project that aims to advocate for the most overlooked wild plants and fungi in urban settings. Using a mix of foraging, folklore, bushcraft and the arts, it facilitates opportunities for people to connect with the other members of the urban ecosystem.
