Donnie Darko has been named one of the greatest cult classics of recent history. We’ll be screening this eccentric and thought-provoking thriller in our upcoming Psychedelic Cinema Club, followed by a group discussion to unravel the movie’s key themes and many mysteries.

Taking place during an election year in the late 1980s, Richard Kelly’s Donnie Darko tells the story of a troubled teenager who receives disturbing visions from a tall bunny rabbit telling him the world will soon come to an end. Seeking answers, Donnie investigates time travel to turn back the clock and prevent the world's seemingly impending doom, actions that pose bizarre and life-changing results.

Once the screening has finished, there will be a discussion to share perspectives and thoughts about the movie. Some themes we may touch on include time travel and parallel realities, existentialism, identity, and “madness.”

The screening will take place in the Gasworks studio. With a living room-style layout, you can sit down or lie down with a blanket and cup of tea at hand for an ultra-cozy screening experience.

This is a non-profit community event. Our intention is to create a space for like-minded individuals who are curious about consciousness and the power of psychedelics to connect, share ideas, and learn from one another.

Movie trailer and reviews

“Incredible film - an enigmatic treat that throws up more possibilities each time you watch it.”

"It remains an aesthetically filmed blend of off-beat comedy, mind-boggling sci-fi, and subjective storytelling that serves as a singular and timeless piece of cinema."

"Complex, inventive, gripping, strange, and in the end deeply moving, with more ideas in it than Hollywood has produced in the entire last decade."

“Brilliant, Intelligent, Captivating, and Enthralling are some terms I would use to describe Donnie Darko. But, even then it doesn't adequately describe how deep, and thought-provoking this film turns out to be.”
