It’s possible to write dull poetry, poetry that will never be read. It’s possible to write poetry that risks nothing, doesn’t taste of mystery, reveals your soul to nobody, and ultimately serves no one.

This is *not* the kind of poetry we want to help you write.

We are two professional poets who want to help you write with the potency you’ve always dreamed of. We love poetry that's a creature of both heaven and earth; that speaks plainly of things that shift the soul; words that have depths and heights, and make the hidden fibres of the world sing.

The poetry of Feral Angels is the poetry of those who know both heavens and underworlds, whose words have both fire and water, a power that stops us in our tracks, that quickens our blood, that sparks songs both old and new in our marrow and our memory. With luck, and the ways we have found, our words fly true and the strands of the hidden web begin to sing.

The three values at the centre of our teaching are

- True speaking

- Real people

- Intrepid eloquence

We call it the Poetry of Feral Angels. If you feel that phrase calling to you, then take the risk and join us.

Our aim for these weekends is for you to be able to claim more space as your genuine self. Come away fizzing with presence and vision, significantly closer to writing the poetry you want to write.

In conversation, and through written and embodied exercises, we’ll be covering

- Practices of deep listening, to our inner worlds, our bodies and the world beyond us.

- Finding our authentic voice(s), and writing from places of wildness, of unequivocal, unconditional welcome.

- Voicing the inner pantheon and reclaiming our exiled parts, to be witnessed in all our glory and misery.

- Addressing our personal divinities, muses and daemons

- Moving towards a heightened sense of personal poetic mission, to begin the journey of understanding our own poetic values.

- Becoming part of our growing community of eloquent souls

And this is just scratching the surface - the whole weekend is a feast of poetic nutrition for your creative journey.

If you are allied to language spoken with eloquence and power, or feel the  compulsion to shape words as an offering to the greater life, then the world of the Feral Angels of Poetry might be a place for you.

I’VE NEVER WRITTEN POETRY BEFORE/ HAVE LIMITED EXPERIENCE/ THINK I’M NO GOOD/ FEEL SHY ETC.

The Wielding the Green Knife weekends are supportive environments for anyone who writes poetry. Yes, these weekends are for those who are involved in working with language and eloquence and the power of words, but we’re all impostors and most of us are shy - please don’t let that put you off.

I’VE DONE FERAL ANGELS/ TOM HIRONS/ ROZI HILTON WORKSHOPS BEFORE – WILL I GET ANYTHING NEW OUT OF THIS?

The Wielding the Green Knife weekend events are a new format for 2023 and we think you’ll find them hugely supportive of your work. The Feral Angels’ Poetry Café online sessions could be considered as tiny tasters for the kind of thing we’ll be doing, but these in-person sessions will be stronger, and more embodied experiences.

I’VE DONE A ‘WIELDING THE GREEN KNIFE’ WEEKEND ALREADY IN 2023 – WILL I GET ANYTHING NEW OUT OF THIS?

Yes! Every event is a new chance to get creative in a different way. However, the content will be similar each weekend. We’d love to see familiar faces popping up as we go around the country with these workshops.

If you have done the weekend and feel like you’d like to dive deeper under different conditions, you can always join us at the Feral Angels Poetry Camp. Details coming to this website soon.

IS FOOD & DRINK INCLUDED?

No - you can bring your own lunch or use the nearby cafés. We will let you know after booking what is available onsite and therefore what else you might need to bring.

No. This two-day event is non-residential.
