Join Alnoor Ladha, Lynn Murphy and Stephen Reid for a discussion on post capitalism and psychedelic colonialism based on Alnoor and Lynn's new book Post Capitalist Philanthropy and Alnoor and Rene Suša's recent article Why the “Psychedelic Renaissance” is just Colonialism by Another Name.

Some of the questions we'll be discussing:

On Post Capitalism

  • How is the metacrisis (including ecological collapse, climate change, species extinction, increasing pandemics, institutional racism, rising authoritarianism, spiking inequality and inhumane poverty) a logical outcome of our dominant economic, political and cultural system?
  • What are the five philosophical tenets of neoliberalism?
  • What is post capitalism? What subtle distinction does the space in 'post capitalism' convey relative to 'post-capitalism'?
  • What are the seven principles of post capitalist realities (post anthropocentric, trans-rationalist, post transactional, anti-patriarchal, post hierarchical, anti-colonialist, anti-racist)?
  • What is an 'onto-shift'? What are some examples of post capitalist onto-shifts?
  • What is the Five Elements Mandala? How do we use capital to create and support post capitalist realities?

On Psychedelic Colonialism

  • In what ways can we question the idea of a 'renaissance' in psychedelics?
  • To the extent to which under our current dominant economic system, profit entails expropriation or exploitation elsewhere, who or what is being exploited/colonised by the psychedelic renaissance?
  • What might be the consequences of attempts by those interested in the therapeutic potential of psychedelics to remove their spiritual/visionary component?
  • What are the "Five Ds" (dialogue, de-commodification, decriminalization, decolonization, decentralization) that together form an alternative to psychedelic colonialism?
  • How do we contribute to reciprocity when we engage with plant teachers and their ancestral custodians?

You will get most out of this event if you take a look at the article and the Knowledge page of the Post Capitalist Philanthropy site beforehand.

We will leave at least 30 minutes for Q&A from the audience. You will be able to suggest and upvote questions via Slido.
