Words are one of the most important tools we have to communicate our inner lives. Despite this, they often fail to convey the subtlety and complexity of our emotions, thoughts, and histories.

How can we put into words our inner lives - and the experiences that shape them? That’s a tough one! As our minds are opened and consciousness expanded, we may lack the language to adequately relate events and emotions back to others – and even to ourselves. But words do offer a precision and directness lacking in other forms of communication. In spaces such as these we tap deeply into the non-verbal: both emotionally and visually.

Keats wrote: “words are images of thoughts refined”.

This workshop will offer that refinement to people who have undertaken an experience they are looking to better define and integrate into their lives. It will be an ideal opportunity to explore the power of language as a tool to support a period of change and transformation, or to reflect on one’s life journey more broadly - using poetry, journaling, and life-writing techniques.

The introductory session will be a writing workshop to introduce us to Dan’s methods, ahead of the third iteration of the more in-depth course starting on 11 April.

What to expect:

  • Brief intro to Dan’s work
  • Writing warm-ups
  • Structured and unstructured writing
  • Sharing of experiences and creativity
  • Q&A with information about the five-week course

Upcoming course dates:

11, 18, 25 Apr & 2 & 9 May
