El Valle: Our Lost Connection with Nature and Chaos

Online Album Preview and Discussion with Chris Timmermann

Join us this April as we traverse the landscape of sound and experience in an exciting preview of Chris Timmermann’s upcoming debut LP ‘El Valle.’ We will journey with Chris as we explore the tales, culture and curiosities which have influenced his musical creation, and investigate how his experience as a DMT-neuroscientist has guided his creative endeavours. Bridging science, art and philosophy - this unique event will entail live music interspersed by contextual conversations with a dedicated portion of opportunity for listeners to ask questions of their own.

About the artist

Chris Timmermann is a London-based, artist and psychedelic researcher, who draws inspiration from Latin folk, ambient and medicine music to generate a unique brand of psychedelia. His intense baritone vocals, intricate guitar work and layered synthesiser soundscapes have featured in the sound of several bands while living in the UK, Italy and his native Chile.

During the last 5 years, Timmermann led the first neuroimaging studies involving DMT, a powerful psychedelic compound, which has been used for hundreds of years in Latin America, where he hails from.  During this time he worked intensely on his debut record ‘El Valle’. In the LP he developed a sound seeking to transmit the intense landscape he was exploring in his research. Both his research and his music attempt to uncover the fundamentals of embodied experience, its rootedness in emotion and developing cartography for what lays beyond the margins of ordinary states of consciousness.

This search has led him to also release one EP, one single and complete two residencies. In his latest residency, called Afirmacion (Affirmation), Timmermann developed, together with Alla Malova (a sculptor and a multimedia artist) a performance mixing Sufi Dance with Latin medicine music, with sounds inspired by Ayahuasca music hailing from the Amazon. In this collaboration the pair attempted to illustrate the recursive processes of Life and Consciousness, always sitting in the border between death and rebirth, between chaos and creativity.

About the current release

His upcoming debut LP ‘El Valle’ (The Valley) exists as an amalgamation of these experiences and experiments. It is a collection of Latin psychedelic folk songs, which display a combination of intimate acoustic tunes, layered by dense synthesiser soundscapes, tribal percussion and rich instrumentation. El Valle is a journey about our lost connection with nature and chaos, the burning experiences that live in the body and our dealings with death. A tale about losing and finding meaning in the liminal time and space we currently find ourselves in.

His first music video ‘El Cuerpo’ (The Body), directed by Anya Oleksiuk and featuring the contemporary dancer José Tomás, illustrates this process of seeking for meaning by using our bodies: through the pains and pleasures of our embodied self, ever-breaking, ever-living.
