TAT - Trauma Awareness Training: a compassionate toolkit for temple goers. Learn about the autonomic nervous system, through the lens of Polyvagal theory, and mindfully attend to your own somatic experience before bringing this awareness of trauma & triggers, to find ways to recognise and work with it for yourself and others in temple space. Everybody welcome over age 18.


Hello Temple Goers!

I’m looking forward to meeting you all on Saturday, 14th September, at the Wild Goose Space, St. Werburghs, Bristol. Shanti has asked me to put together a toolkit training for you all to experience as a community, so that you can be more compassionately aware of trauma and nervous system activation, both in yourselves and each other. The intention is that this will lead into a shared language you can use to better communicate your needs, wants and boundaries with one another. 

Here's a little more about what I have planned for you on the day;

  • I’ll define what trauma is, and what it is not. It’s such a well used term these days that it’s good to be clear on it, and there will be space for your questions.
  • We’ll go through some classic ways our nervous system can respond when relating, such as faun, fight, flight, freeze. You’ll also be supported to recognise your own default patterning.
  • We’ll explore boundaries, domains and desires, as well as ways to communicate these.
  • To help take this understanding into the body, you’ll also be invited into a partnered breath work exercise. This will involve lying down and could include some consensual, non-sexual touch. Please bring nesting materials, such as a yoga mat and/or blanket, so that you can be comfortable.
  • Finally, we’ll look at some trauma first aid and how to help members of your community if they are having a hard time regulating their nervous system.

There’ll be a 90 minute lunch break, so you’ll have plenty of time to go out and stretch your legs, get something to eat, socialise with one another, or if you prefer you can take some time alone. St. Werburgh’s City Farm Cafe is just around the corner and serves lots of tasty, healthy treats. Hot drinks will be provided throughout the day.

We’ll start at 9:30am, but the room will open from 9.15am if you want to come early, get settled and greet one another before we begin. Lunch will be around 1pm and we’ll close the day at 5.30pm.
