Come try an introduction to Ethan Hsieh's TIAMAT at the beautiful Plot 9 Maze Hill.
Maximum 25 participants!

TIAMAT (The Integrative Approach and Methodology of Active Transformation) is a synergistic set of practices aimed at developing skilful connection between mind-and-body and self-and-group. This introductory workshop will immerse you into the pillars of TIAMAT practice.

TIAMAT is "self-development" aiming to overcome the common pitfalls that give self-development its bad name. It gives you tools to live skilfully and poetically without falling into self-obsession, self-tyranny, or guru-worship. It's a no-nonsense framework that integrates theater/acting practice, Eastern traditions, and modern cognitive science.

Who is this for?

This event is open and accessible to performers and non-performers alike. It’s for anyone curious about their relationship to their mind, to their body, and to other people.

You will need to be 18 or older to join.

What will you do?

TIAMAT trains those muscles-for-graceful-living that help you shift perspectives, know what you’re feeling, communicate effectively , listen deeply, and generate insight into knotty-problems. For this introductory workshop, this will involve:

  • Partner work, present-moment noticing and verbalising of experience.
  • Meditation exercises, to developing awareness of experience.
  • Frame games, to generate insight into how we're make meaning of our experience.

The workshop will last 3 hours – after that there will be an optional 1 hour Q&A / hang out.

History

Ethan Hsieh developed TIAMAT through 10 years of practice-research, working cross-culturally with actors and non-actors, in conversation with 4E cognitive science, which makes the case the cognition is not isolated to the brain but is Embodied, Embedded, Enacted, and Extended.

Ethan has run TIAMAT workshops in Taiwan, Japan, Indonesia, France, Czechia, the Netherlands, and Singapore. He is Artistic Director of 5toMidnight International and Director of Community Development and Partnerships at the Vervaeke Foundation. He holds an MA in Professional Practice: Theatre and Drama Facilitation from Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts.

When & where?

This workshop will take place at Plot 9 Maze Hill on Sunday the 12th of May, starting at 2pm!

Why Plot 9?

I'm Rens, a Plot 9 regular and local artist. I serindipitously met Ethan last summer in London when he was touring with John Vervaeke (my intellectual hero!) on the UK-leg of his speaking tour. When I heard Ethan was doing a workshop in Czechia (now just gone), I invited him to come to London, and he said yes! I thought that the beauty and spirit of Plot 9 would make it the perfect place to host Ethan for an introductory workshop. Hope you can make it!

Ethan will also be speaking at the free event Plot 9 Presents on May 9th!

Come join us at Plot 9 Maze Hill to explore, deepen, finesse your relationship to mind, body, self, and other!
