Did you know that cannabis was legalised as a medicine in the UK 4 years ago?

Cannabis is legal, yet the stigma remains rife in our society today. This is despite the law changing gradually across the globe in favour of medicalisation, as we see many US states, Canada and parts of Europe begin to accept cannabis-based medicines into mainstream healthcare. The UK needs to catch up, and it needs to do it fast, as millions of Brits could and should be benefitting from medical cannabis according to illicit cannabis use statistics.

Since 2018, we’ve only seen three whole plant cannabis prescriptions issued on the NHS. Why is this? And why is it proving so difficult to change people’s views on cannabis in the UK, when the evidence points to this plant having so many medical uses? How can people get a cannabis prescription now in the UK and who qualifies to get a prescription?

We will answer all these questions and many more!

SPEAKER

Mags is Head of Projects & Comms for Drug Science, heading up Drug Science’s medical cannabis study T21 (formerly Project Twenty21) which collects data on over 3500 patients with the objective of demonstrating that medical cannabis can help treat a wide range of conditions. With the study in its third year, Mags decided this year to launch the first ever UK Patient Conference to coincide with Medical Cannabis Awareness Week, with the intention of bringing the medical cannabis community (still in its infancy) together and facilitating much needed conversations that put patients first. Mags is also a Co-director of the Psychedelic Society curating and hosting events in London and online, with a particular passion for connecting people and building community. In addition, she volunteers as Marketing Director for Heroic Hearts Project UK, a not-for-profit organisation that helps veterans suffering with PTSD through psychedelic therapy, retreats and research.
