Join Psychological Care and Healing Center (PCH)  for a virtual community screening of Medicating Normal, a 76-minute documentary film exploring our current mental health care system's reliance on psychiatric drugs to deal with trauma, grief, and distress. There will be an interactive community discussion immediately after the film. CE’s available for psychologists.

Panelists include: Jeff Ball, PhD, CEO of PCH and assitant clinical professor at UCLA Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior; Adriana Westby-Trent, PhD is a clinical psychologist and Executive Clinical Director at PCH. She is nationally certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Seeking Safety, and Managing and Adapting Practice and is an adjunct faculty in the Marriage and Family Therapy program at Pacific Oaks College; Timothy Pylko, MD Adjunct Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, USC School of Medicine and the Executive Director of PCH Pasadena Treatment Center; and Angela Peacock, MSW, former U.S. Army Sergeant and subject of the film, Medicating Normal.

Two CEs for Psychologists 

At the conclusion of the film's screening and discussion, participants will be able to:

  1. Critically analyze the current paradigm of mental health care treatments.
  2. Demonstrate health literacy for themselves and their patients/clients.
  3. Describe psychiatric drug medication safety.
  4. Explain informed consent. 
  5. Discuss the potential risks, benefits, complexities and complications involved with deprescribing and withdrawal from psychiatric drugs.

PCH is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. PCH maintains responsibility for this program and its content.
