We are amidst a global psychedelic renaissance. The conversation about psychedelic drugs has opened and we are continuing to learn from, establish and expand psychedelic communities. With mainstream predominance on psychoactive drugs, what lessons can be told from the wider scope of psychedelic culture?

Based on electronic dance music, psytrance has a large global following and is credited with offering insight into more spiritual aspects within electronic dance. One quote describes how psytrance culture has become a form of “electronic dance music culture that continues to pursue peaceful, collective living in sonic celebration.”

The power of unified dancing, all dancing differently but together is an untapped power to release our mutual consciousnesses. Anthropology postdoc Jackie, will be delivering this unique talk sharing her ethnographic research into the practices and principles of the psychedelic trance scene in the UK. Through exploring interpretations of the characteristics, beliefs, and experiences of psyculture, she is investigating how these findings could bring health, social, economic and cultural benefits to the wider society. With psytrance as an entry to advancement of ourselves and the unifying power of dance as tapping into our mutual consciousness, what role could psychedelic trance music culture play in our current world crisis?

From the history of electronic trance music through to recent anthropological findings, we will explore the importance of dance, music and festivals in our global climate.
