Cyclical wisdom is millions of years old, formed by the earth’s intelligence and offers us a roadmap to create cultures of care, balance and regeneration.

Calling on over ten years of embodiment, creativity, ritual, nature connection, and activism, this work dives into cyclical wisdom as a pathway to unlearn in order to prioritise a post growth future; one that values our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing over profit and productivity.

“I'd been experiencing chronic burnout from my activist work and lifestyle which left me feeling deeply exhausted and hopeless. I'll never forget where we were or Alana's compassionate and courageous facilitation in moving me to realise and reflect on how I was not only harming myself but reproducing the very dynamics my activism was trying to dismantle.” - Vanessa Faloye, Workshop Participant

Course Overview

During this course you will discover the many layers of the cyclical map, like circadian rhythms, moon cycles, and the turning of the seasons.

Structured around the four seasons, (spring, summer, autumn and winter,) this course explores the energies that are most alive during that period of the year and how they mirror other cyclical patterns.

Through movement, visualisation, discussion, journaling, and more you will find an embodied sense of understanding, and come to appreciate how each season is an essential component of the whole. When we live outside of this natural rhythm, we are throwing ourselves (and our earth) out of balance.

~~~
This event welcomes people of all genders and none. It recognises that we all have the potential to access cyclical wisdom.
Some of the themes we will cover include:
  • Remembering our relationship and belonging with nature
  • Capitalism as ‘Perpetual Summer’
  • The cycle of becoming an elder
  • Cyclical wisdom as regenerative cultures
  • Patterns of productivity / burn out
  • Embodiment
  • Grief tending and death
  • Rest and pausing
  • Pleasure activism
Four Week Structure
Mondays from 18th January 7 - 9.30 we will create a container for us to deepen our own cyclical, earth and body wisdom as we explore the map of cyclical regeneration through ritual, reflection, embodiment and more.
Week 1: 18th Jan
Spring (Ostara Equinox & Beltane)
Exploring the energies of birth, sunrise, the east and the element of air.
We build our container together, look briefly at a culture of mentoring/coaching, set intentions for the year and dive into the energy of birth, spring and sunrise. This module will also explore ‘pleasure activism’ as practice to cultivate spring energy.
Week 2: 25th Jan
Summer (Litha Solstice & Lammas)
Exploring the energies of adolescents, noon, the south and the element of fire.
Take a moment to reflect on our learning so far outside of the workshop, and deepen our connections as a group. Explore the energy of healthy and unhealthy summer energies, discussing capitalism as ‘perpetual summer’ and our relationship with productivity and rest.
Week 3: 1st Feb (Imbolc)
Autumn (Mabon Equinox & Samhain)
Exploring the energies of maturity, sunset, the west and the element of water.
We will give voice to anything that feels challenging, as well as reflecting on how we’re finding the learning experience so far. We will discuss the energies of autumn and the practices that help us begin to slow down. We will also look at cultivating our relationship with grief tending and death as a way to support autumn energy.
Week 4: 8th Feb
Winter (Yule Solstice & Imbolc)
Exploring the energies of elderhood, night, the north and the element of earth.
This will be an opportunity to begin to harvest the learnings from our journey, we’ll explore rest as resistance and the process of becoming elders, exploring stillness and yin as part of our practices.
Extra:
Monday 15th Feb (6 - 7.30)
Integration and reflection
A follow up support call for integration and reflection on the learning journey and how we are embodying this in our lives.
  • Heal and understand the parts of you that find it hard to rest, pause and stop
  • Learn the importance of cyclical activism and the wisdom nature offers us
  • Grow to embody values that lead us towards regeneration, that support you to step into your gifts and what you have to offer the world
  • Transform your relationship to your work, how you organise your time and what you choose to prioritise in your life
  • Connect with a community of curious cyclical learners
  • Deepen your understanding of your own cyclical rhythms
  • Discover practices to support balance and wellbeing
  • Find more energy and connection with your creative life force
  • Cultivate a deeper intimacy with nature and the earth
  • Connecting with a sense of belonging and worth
“I got to experience a taste of what might happen if I embraced the natural cycles of my day, my month, my year. I saw more clearly what might arise if we were to collectively lean into the rhythms of nature with our bodies, our work, and our relationships. How much could be restored, how much could be renewed?” - Yasmina
Why is cyclical wisdom important?
Many of us tend to speed through winter, or any other time of the year, without so much as glimpsing the subtle rhythmic changes of the earth that affect all of life. We often see ourselves as separate from nature rather than interconnected and affected by it.
We are living in a culture of burnout, stress, anxiety and productivity that is making us and the planet unwell. So many find it difficult to move beyond the ‘busy’ that we are all accustomed to, forcing ourselves into unnatural rhythms to meet the expectations of the society we live in.
Yet, we are creatures in animal bodies that are deeply affected by our environment. Our cultural norms are creating a traumatised society that can’t remember how to stop. It is essential for the sustainability and wellbeing of ourselves and the natural world to refuse to invest in this culture and to walk a path that is attentive to how we perpetuate systems that keep us tired, separate and feeling unworthy.
So what could be possible if we all had December off to rest? If we recognised how we each uphold the system through behaviours that feed capitalism? What if we could find a deeper connection to the earth? What if it could help slow us down? What could be possible?
Facilitator
Alana is an artist, facilitator, performer, ritualist and activist committed to expressing life to its fullest capacity through creativity and facilitation. More recently she has been exploring what it means to become a doula to systems change through the intersections of ritual, community, spirituality, learning and creativity. She weaves embodiment, cyclical wisdom, pleasure, grief and artistry into the spaces she holds, drawing on her lifelong curiosity in leading groups. Since 2016 she has run an array of creative retreats including The Warren where she creates experiences for people to explore their creative gifts through community, connection and many practices inspired by theatre & dance.  She is co-director of The Living Projects, a regenerative land based learning community in Devon and a Host Mentor with Enrol Yourself and a member of the Buckminster Fuller Design Science Studio 2020.
"As a Facilitator she strikes a beautiful balance between holding the structure while attuning and adapting to what is intuitively called for in the moment. One of her many gifts is gently and powerfully helping groups to ground in the ways of nature and the rhythms of the body. She lives and breathes what she teaches, she shares from her inner well of lived experience." - Emma Ashru-Jones
