Shroomshop Pro: A Four Week Advanced Mushroom Cultivation Course

Mushrooms have been growing wild since prehistoric times. Their therapeutic value has been prized in indigenous cultures, for thousands of years. They play a critical role in medicinal practices and were noted in some of the first books on herbal medicine written thousands of years ago. In the past few decades, mushrooms have become more popular for their therapeutic qualities in the west as a result of an expanding body of scientific research supporting their numerous health benefits.

Come and expand your mushroom cultivation knowledge and learn advanced growing techniques in this four week course designed for people who already know the basics. It is perfect for anyone who has attended any of Darren’s previous Shroomshop for Beginners. In this course Darren shares his depth of knowledge and experience to help you successfully take your mushroom growing operation to the next level. 

It has been designed to support previous attendees, but will also be applicable to those of you who have basic cultivation knowledge. Darren will include mushroom theory on this course, plus teaching via a hands on experience. Week by week we will cover the following advanced techniques in-depth:

Week 1:

• Course introduction
• Making your own spore prints
• Making your own spore syringes
• How to make liquid culture

Week 2:

• Making your own spawn
• Working with grain and wood substrates

Week 3:

• How to increase your yields
• Experimenting with bulk growing techniques

Week 4:

• Fruiting: tubs, chambers, grow rooms, agar plates, culture libraries

We will also revisit some of the basics of mushroom cultivation on a deeper level, and use the weeks to reinforce previous lessons taught and address some of the challenges you may have faced so far. Participants only need to bring a pen and pad. Handouts and all training materials will be provided.

About Your Facilitator

Darren Springer is a qualified organic horticulturist. By day he teaches organic gardening and food enterprise to “so called” hard to reach young people, in particular those who have been temporarily or permanently excluded from main stream school. He works with them as a mentor and develops youth led sustainable food enterprise, so the young can generate a financial income as a tangible alternative to some of the reasons why they got into trouble in the first place.

Darren is also a qualified Permaculture teacher and facilitator. Permaculture is an innovative framework for creating sustainable ways of living. It is a practical method of developing ecologically harmonious, efficient and productive systems that can be used by anyone, anywhere. His interactive workshops look at the fundamental ethics and principles of permaculture, while sharing practical tips for personalising and implementing the tools in our busy daily urban settings. Along with being a member of the Breaking Convention committee, Darren has worked with CRCLR in Berlin and LUSH in the UK supporting both to create sustainable working systems and environments using permaculture.

Collectively his work aims to inform and empower individuals from diverse backgrounds to cope with social challenges and contribute to community development as well as self-improvement in an innovative, creative, culturally-aware style.
